Since Yousef, Tunisian, has landed on the shores of Sicily, the land of Joseph, the two do not have to leave.
Joseph Yousef, the same name in two different languages, they seem to be united not only on fraternal friendship, but also from the same fate. After ten years of sharing, of complicity, of hard work as fishermen in the sea, the two friends bought Medea, a small vessel used, the symbol of deliverance Troina former boss, who exploited them without getting too many scruples.
Life goes on with great difficulty, because fishing is not always abundant, nor ensured every day. Still pay the debts of the boat and Troina controls the local market fish with attitudes from the Mafia.
But suddenly everything falls apart. After the Madrid train bombing, we seek those responsible, the radio announces that Yousef is the terrorist who the police are looking for, the author of the atrocious massacre.
In reality it is a case of homonymy, but Giuseppe begins a psychological ordeal, which led him to look at the friend of all time with different eyes, suspicious, unbelieving.
Just a little, and the situation degenerates. Giuseppe and Yousef no longer recognize, or rather, they find each other the materialization of their fears, which led him to consider something other than itself as something different and therefore threatening.
The boat becomes a different world, a microcosm in outcrops of the prejudices of both sides, in which the madness leaves no room for dialogue.
In the midst of the sea, Giuseppe and Yousef, both victims and executioners, they will become the symbol of the war that has bloodied our world.
This is the story of Io, the other, the latest film by Tunisian director Mohsen Melliti, played by Raoul Bova, who is also a producer, and John Martorana.
A good test for the two actors, but despite the current thematic and dramatic, the film off. Surely it was the courageous decision to turn most of the film on the vessel, showing nothing but the faces of the protagonists, the sky and the sea. Although we would not have borne most of the eighty minutes of the film, I and the other is a commendable project and an interesting film, however, that forces us to reflect and look inside.
